Song for the Wild is a multi-media concert celebrating the legacy of Sigurd Olson, one of America’s greatest conservationists of the 20th century. The show features writings of Olson put to music by Warren Nelson and back-dropped by projected photos of Olson and his beloved canoe country. The first half of Song for the Wild is Nelson’s musical portrait of Sigurd Olson, the second half features his original environmental songs including some from Wild River, a show he created in 1988 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the St. Croix River’s designation as a wild and scenic river. Also tributes to other conservationists will be included: Izaak Walton, Aldo Leopold, John Muir.
Warren Nelson, Founder of Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua is best known for his historical musicals. He was commissioned to write the musical history for the state of Minnesota, Old Minnesota: Song of the North Star, Wisconsin’s, 30th Star, US Forest Service’s Centennial Green and Riding the Wind, flagship show of the Big Top.
